Sneaky Sneaky Spotify

If you’re a music fan with internet access and you haven’t heard about Spotify yet, you’re probably living under a rock and probably not reading this post. It’s certainly convenient for listening to any and every album you forgot in high school during the work day, but does this newfound music miracle really know anything about music fans?

Take for instance its ads that interrupt free streaming about every 3-4 songs. Why in the name of Keyboard Cat would you serve me an ad about Selena Gomez when I’m listening to heavy doses of The Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam? Broadway Hits mid Incubus? Jay-Z (who, to their credit, I’m a huge fan of) when I’m checking out some really low key ambient tracks from The Album Leaf? This is either a sign of incompetence on their part in terms of music pairings or a less than subtle hint to upgrade to their paid service. The latter would be a bit underhanded, but would at least restore my faith in the ideal that this mega-sized music purveyor has a clue. Very sneaky Spotify.
