Daaaaawwww. Lucky the Humboldt Penguin may be the luckiest penguin in the world. Zookeepers at the Santa Barbara Zoo, California, noticed Lucky’s limp ever since the little rascal smashed his way out of the egg. Sure, it sounds cute, but the limp, caused by improper bone growth in his foot, was no laughing matter — if left untreated, it was predicted that Lucky would be susceptible to potentially fatal infections :( Lucky for Lucky, his keepers, and the folks at shoe company,Teva, had a solution. A specialized penguin bootie was crafted to correct Lucky’s limp.

The waterproof shoe/boot/sandal-thing has Lucky walking, jumping, and swimming just like the other penguins. And, yes, for all you mom-types out there wondering, Lucky’s shoe is changed and washed daily to keep Lucky’s happy feet stink-free.
